An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) is an identifying number used in the U.S. mainly for tax purposes. ITINs are used by foreign nationals in the U.S. on temporary visas, and by non-resident aliens with U.S. income. Also called a Federal Taxpayer Identification Number (FEIN), these can be assigned by the Social Security Administration or the IRS.
